Charles Butt Stanton

Rank/Position: Passenger

Airships Served on:

Charles Butt Stanton; Labour MP for Aberdare, Wales (B. 7 Apr 1873, D. 6 Dec 1946). Flew on the MP demonstration flight, the eighth flight of R36. Although not involved in aeronautical matters, Stanton was left with a favourable impression by this flight which helped in the ultimate decision by the future Labour government to proceed with airship development.

A man of physically large stature, his happy demeanour was noted by Cpt. T. B. Williams Airship Pilot No. 28. Stanton got physically stuck in the small opening near the top of the Pulham mast and several crew had to push him through. He found the whole matter quite amusing.
