2nd Officer. (B. 1896). Scroggs played a key role in saving the R36 on her third flight when she suffered serious damage to two of her stabilizers during heavy turbulence. At great risk, he walked upon a damaged horizontal stabilizer, with unsure footing and exposure to the wind stream, in order to conduct repairs. He was awarded a service bar to the AFC for his bravery. Scroggs later became a Group Captain in the RAF, serving in Iraq with No. 45 Squadron.
He lost his life on active duty in 1941 at Thornley Island aged 45.
