Born in Auchtertool, Fife on May 13, 1899. Believed to have passed away 13 September 1981 in Midlothian.

5 ft 7 inches, blue eyes, dark brown hair.
Enlisted in the Royal Navy on his 18th birthday in 1917 for a term of 12 years. Served on the Ganges and President II (Howden). He transferred to the RNAS; later to the RAF as with all other RNAS airship personnel on April 1, 1918. He served as a machinist and rigger on R29, based at East Fortune, Scotland.
He also flew on the round-trip trans-Atlantic flight of R34. With the outbreak of war again in 1939 he volunteered and became a Warrant Officer in the RAF, Rank of Flying Officer, and a Commissioned Physical Training Officer as well as assisting with the Equipment Branch.
Although his date of passing remains to be confirmed, a John Forteath did pass away in Midlothian on Sept. 13, 1981 and this is thought to be him.
