Elmhirst, Thomas Walker Flt Lt., later Major AFC; Chief Navigating Officer for the first three flights of R36. (B. 15 Dec 1895, D. 6 Nov 1982).
Well-known for having flown an SS Zero airship under the Menai Bridge in Wales to celebrate the Armistice. He served with non-rigids at Anglesey, Howden and Pulham. After serving on R36, he went on to have a distinguished career, being placed in charge of the Malta Flying Boats for a number of years.
He then worked for the RAF Staff College and Air Ministry Intelligence.
After WWII he was the Commander in Chief of the Indian Air Force and then became Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey.
