Weir, William Douglas, Lord of Eastwood Renfrewshire. Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Civil Aviation. (B. 12 May 1877, D. 2 July 1959) Weir was appointed as President of the Air Council in 1918. Previously he had served as Controller of Aeronautical Supplies and was a member of the Air Board. Although he resigned shortly after the cessation of hostilities he continued to serve on several committees, notably in the realm of civil aviation and rationalization of armed services, among others. During WWII Weir was the director-general of explosives at the Ministry of Supply and later chairman of the Tank Board. Weir flew on R36 on April 2, 1921 from Inchinnan to Pulham.
