Alexander Bushfield

Alexander Bushfield was born in 1878 and joined the Royal Navy in 1900. By 1913 he was attached to the newly formed RNAS and was to spend the next few years taking part in airship trials at Barrow. At the end of the First World War, he transferred to the newly formed RAF in the Technical Branch. By 1920 he was Inspector of Airships at RAF Howden where he remained until 1922.

On retiring from the RAF, he joined the Air Ministry in the Aeronautical Inspection Department and found himself working on the R100 and R101 trials.

Tragically, lost his life in the loss of the R101 on 5th October 1930.

Bushfield Court in the new development at New Cardington is named after this man.
