Deverell, affectionately known as “Dev”, was an apprentice who worked on the construction of R80, before going on to serve as a rigger on the R36 and R100. He served on the trans-Atlantic voyage of the latter to St. Hubert’s, Montreal, Quebec, in July of 1930.
