Walter Augustus Potter

 (B. Oct 1897. D. 05 Oct 1930). Walter Potter was born in Yoxford, Suffolk in 1897. In 1914 when Potter was 16, he joined the Royal Navy and later transferred to the RNAS serving on non-rigid airships. After the transition to the RAF, he served on R38 and was one of only a handful who survived the crash in 1921. Potter was later assigned to R36 refurbishment at Pulham in 1924. After moving to Cardington to serve with R101, he was killed in her crash on Oct. 5, 1930.

Potter Meadows in Shortstown is named after Walter.
