Flight Sergeant Walter Potter joined the RNAS in 1915 and worked on non-rigids. After working on the R9 he served on the R23 and was Asst Cox on the R33. Walter was one of only five survivors of the R38 crash in 1921. Despite this harrowing experience, Walter continued in service and by 1925 was living in Shortstown attached to the R101. Potter Meadows in Shortstown is named after Walter.
